Lățimea de bandă de oprire se referă la lățimea intervalului benzii de oprire, adică intervalul de frecvență dintre frecvențele de tăiere înalte și joase. Filtrele cu bandă de oprire au rate de atenuare diferite, care sunt utilizate pentru a reprezenta gradul de atenuare a semnalului în intervalul benzii de oprire în raport cu semnalul din intervalul benzii de trecere. Unele filtre cu bandă de oprire pot avea ondulații în intervalul benzii de trecere, adică modificări ale câștigului semnalului pe un anumit interval de frecvență. Ondulațiile pot fi controlate prin proiectarea și optimizarea filtrelor pentru a asigura calitatea semnalului în intervalul benzii de trecere. Filtrele cu bandă de oprire au de obicei impedanțe specifice de intrare și ieșire pentru a se potrivi cerințelor de impedanță ale sursei de semnal și ale sarcinii.
Filtrele cu bandă opritoare sunt utilizate pe scară largă în diverse domenii, cum ar fi sistemele de comunicații, echipamentele audio, amplificatoarele, receptoarele radio etc.
